WRITING YOUR VOWS

Writing your vows can be one of those things you put off until the day of the wedding, (I only know this because that’s what I did.) Haha SO DON’T DO THAT.

Vows are a pretty big deal on a wedding day. They can make everyone cry, or make everyone laugh, or make everyone feel very very awkward and uncomfortable. So put some thought into it, so you’re not left with your families, friends, and spouses awkwardly looking at you with the ‘huhhh??’

Use this to help prepare, and set aside some time the weeks leading up to your wedding day! If you find this helpful share it with your spouse so you can be on the same page!

So let’s cover some basics of vow writing!!

1. Unless you write like a 5 year old, always, always write it by hand over reading off your phone or typing it. It makes does much better and more personal keepsake! And you don’t want your phone dying and then you’re left up there panicking and saying whatever comes to mind! Might work, but probably not.

2. Be yourself! Don’t use words you don’t normally use, over the top trying to sound like like you're an eloquent poet.

3. Don’t use too many inside jokes, unless it’s something the crowd would make understand, you don’t want to lose them completely while you talk.

4. Communicate with your spouse about making your vows completely funny, or completely heartfelt, or something in between!

5. Keep it to about 3 minutes tops! You don’t want to lose the crowd or your spouse. 3 minutes is more than enough time to say some meaningful and funny things to your spouse.

6. Vows are what they sound like, a vow. So make promises that you are willing to keep! Not something that’s crazy over the top like breakfast in bed til death do us part!

7. Practice! Don’t memorize, but read it over multiple times so you’re comfortable with all the words and making sure you don’t have any parts that are hard to read or pronounce. (such as tongue twisters)

There, simple as that! Now set aside some time to write those vows!
